ITL Clinical Practice

Clinical Practice must be completed in the appropriate credential area. "Credential area" is defined by two things: 1) the program, in which you are enrolled and for which you have completed the coursework and 2) the placement must be in the subject area in which you have met subject matter competency.

Multiple Subject Candidates must have exposure to "beginning readers" as well as Math and EL lessons for CalTPA. Instruction must match the authorizations for the credential sought and the subject matter obtained to include English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Science, Visual and Performing Arts, Health, and Physical Education.

Single Subject Instruction must match the authorizations for the credential sought and the subject matter obtained.

The placement will be in a face-to-face, traditional public-school setting, with a full-day, Monday-Friday schedule. Independent Study, homeschool settings, virtual instruction, and correctional facilities will not be considered. TK only placements are discouraged and will require additional faculty approval. National University does not approve virtual placements.

University Internship Cohort Determination Dates

Students who pursue a University Internship are placed in their clinical practice cohort and coursework based on the date their University Internship credential is granted by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
